HEY! HO! HELL! NO! They try to put us in a box and then they try to put that, put that box away. NO WAY! We won’t play (we won’t go) their same old song, we got a new singalong. C’mon, c’mon, c’mon, c’mon, C’mon, the party’s on! Wave your freedom flag one more time, wave it proudly, wave it all around. Sing that freedom song one more time, sing it loudly, sing it while you can. Less rights left and 404s more. Do what you can and can what you do, they're after you. Shhhhhh! Listen, do you hear it? Fear the deafening roar of silent okays and evade the body snatchers. They are, they are, they are, they are, they are, they are, they are, they are, yeaaaah! They are, they are, we are, they are, we are, they are, we are, we are all around! Wave your freedom flag one more time, wave it proudly, wave it all around. Sing that freedom song one more time, sing it loudly, sing it while you can. HEY! HELL! Don’t take for granted all things we have, NO! all things we have can be taken away. YES INDEED It’s not about their freedom, or where it fries, but it’s about our freedom, (‘cause WE are the good guys, right?) and where that begins. (In a dream submarine, perhaps?) Wave your freedom flag one more time, wave it proudly, wave it all around. Sing that freedom song one more time, sing it loudly, sing it while you can. Mmmm-hmmm brother, I’m telling you: freedom - you’re just gonna have to learn to deal with it.

Death. That’s when things got off to a better start. One wild ride from a coffin to movie parts. Hanging out with the Six Million Dollar Man. It’s all about side showbiz, play the roles deadpan. Yeah you can! Tests conclusive, the scientist agrees: dummy’s not a dummy but a mummy that is very very crummy and is indeed Oklahoma badman, eaten coins like a Pac-Man, with a world-class tan, Skeletor’s saying he’s fam. Gunslinging, nitro-swingin’, rock the brain mundane. Train robbing, heartstopping, rock the brain mundane. Money-making, body breaking, rock the brain mundane. Vincent Pricing, roller-skating, rock that brain to entertain. From the Mouth Gunslinging, nitro-swingin’, rock the brain mundane. Train robbing, heartstopping, rock the brain mundane. Money-making, body breaking, rock the brain mundane. Vincent Pricing, roller-skating, rock that brain to entertain. Me minus mouth finally found a home sweet home to rest them bones under a red rose and two feet of concrete. But where did I go? Well, that's for me to know and for you to find out. about

Pepe Deluxé, aka Finnish-Swedish funkateers James Spectrum and Paul Malmström, drop another AA-single from their forthcoming kaleidoscopic album Comix Sonix (following 21 June, Catskills Records).

On A-side Freedom Flag Pepe Deluxé sing "They try to put us in a box. And then they try to put that box away. No Way!" Creative freedom stands as the main foundational pillar of Pepe Deluxé, alongside eclecticism, coffee, and sausages – the latter featured flying in Freedom Flag’s video by Pepe Deluxé’s Paul Malmström. The song is a playful yet poignant reflection on the dangers of oversimplification and lazy labelling, and as a humorous unexpected twist, another new Pepe track, Earth Boys are Easy, is currently on a TV near you as part of IKEA’s global campaign named – believe it or not – “Box it!”

Freedom Flag boasts a sample by Pepe of the Pepe song which the Prodigy also sampled (Salami Fever) – you follow? Plus, scratches from guest DJ Slow (a former founding-member of Pepe) and a thunderous double bass break by metal legend Kai Hahto, with a banjo and musical spoons further spicing up this funky stew.

The AA-side, From the Mouth of Elmer McCurdy, highlights Pepe Deluxé’s unmatched credentials as the mad hatter inventors of the music world. This time they team up with nearly-as-eccentric creator Bart Hopkin, who boasts a 100+ collection of unique experimental instruments, many of which are showcased on the new album ‘Comix Sonix’. The single includes Bart’s Dansal 3, Slide Rattletine, Moe Flute, Aquaalt, Open TDF and Smoke Paprika; all as peculiar as their names, providing an eclectic backdrop to the song’s incredible true story of the fate of the infamous Oklahoma outlaw. Following his demise at the hands of the sheriff’s posse following a failed train robbery, McCurdy emerged as a coin-eating, roller-skating, US-crisscrossing mummy - with film cameos. Not forgetting a stint where he was painted fluorescent red and suspended from the gallows in an eerie display, only to be discovered by the crew of Six Million Dollar Man, who first mistook him for a dummy. Elmer’s influence even extended to 80’s cartoons, with the creator of Skeletor citing McCurdy as the character’s progenitor. Whew! The song’s title is a reference to a further curiosity, whereby Elmer’s mouth disappeared shortly before his burial. A story as bizarre as Pepé Deluxé’s musical odysseys…

Double AA-single Freedom Flag and From the Mouth of Elmer McCurdy is out 23 April, with Pepe Deluxé’s new long player Comix Sonix following 21 June via Catskills Records.

"I just had a dream about Pepe!!!!" DJ Slow exclaimed when we reached out to him about recording some scratches for a new Pepe song. After a 20+ year hiatus, the founding Pepe DJ Returns (* & kicks off "Freedom Flag" with his turntables. Initially conceived as a song about sexual freedom, this track took on new dimensions when adapted into a Pepe tune, with messages now more universal and open to interpretation. There are plenty of hidden details beneath its slightly sparser surface. Can you succeed where Catskills chaps failed - spotting the Salami Fever sample?

"From the Mouth of Elmer McCurdy" was originally composed for the late Chester Bennington (of Linkin Park) - no joke! Sylvia Massy approached us years ago with the idea of "remaking" some older Chester songs. It was a fun project, but we soon realized they couldn't be released due to legal reasons. So we scrapped the vocals (**, heavily reworked the song, and wrote lyrics about the most adventurous mummy ever (TRUE story!) - with our amazing Charlotta providing her fabulous vocals. Chris Cote lends a hand too. Thus a song for a dead man was resurrected as a song about a semi-living legend.
The 7" features perhaps my favorite Pepe art to date. NOTICE: the 7" is running a little late, now expected to ship in mid-May. Sorry about that! And the FF VIDEO will follow later this week.

Anyway, we hope you enjoy this new release! 🎉 #PepeDeluxe

**) ALL of them? Well, keeping any would have been Illegal, and we would never do anything illegal, would we?
